Three Collections In One Awesome Card

I had been emailing back and worth with Jeremy from No One's Gonna Read This Blog! regarding some 2008 Allen and Ginter cards he had come into. I really wanted to finish that one off and sure enough I recieved a package from Oklahoma with the remaining cards I needed to finish that set off. I will probably post them on another day, I hope. Game 4 is on and in the 8th inning and I have my fingers crossed and rally cap on. I do have time for a one card post.

This was a surprise addition and total bonus from Jeremy and it combines three of my favorite things in collecting.

1. Its a custom card and they rule!

2. Its roller derby. One of my favorite things in the world and

3. Its a sombrero card! Cards of people wearing sombreros is one of my odd genre collections that has stayed pretty small. Check it out, 3 birds, 1 stone (card). I love it!!!

Wait... Couldn't publish cuz of blogger issues. The game is over, Rangers lost. My guy Aubrey Huff had a monster homerun and Freddy Sanchez had some nice plays in the field. Happy for them, bummed for the Rangers. While I wait on blogger, here are a few 2008 Allen and Ginter cards that need to go to the binder. The base set (1-350) is done! The State cards are done! Now my focus is on the Baseball Icons, Ancient Icons and Team Orange minis. As well as gathering the complete rainbow of Carl Crawford minis and inserts. Feel free to help... Wantlist is here... New Blog Header...

Some of you may have noticed the revolving door that is my blog header... I do intend on changing this image every now, but I wanted to mention the new one. It is a custom card made by Mark (without a C) of the Mark's Ephemera blog. He and I have a connection for several reasons, but mainly because our first names are pronounced the same even though they are spelled differently. Anyway, the custom card he sent floored me. I love it! I couldn't edit my blog quick enough to get it up there as a header. A few of you have made me sombrero cards and I love them all, but they have all been players with sombreros photoshopped onto their heads. This is real and sombrero-tastic! Thanks so much Mark! Collecting Themes, I Love This Hobby!!!!

The other day Big D from the “Hey That’s Mine” blog posted about a new collection he’s started. I knew he was a big fan of Kurt Suzuki already, but he expanded his collection to a new theme, now collecting any and all cards of the hardest working guys on the field, the catchers-in full gear of course. There are a few people out there who collect themes, me included. I love the thrill of getting a super awesome low serial numbered autograph relic, but theme collecting keeps this hobby fun. So far the theme collections that I know of are as follows:
The Night Owl collects night cards. The ladies at Dinged Corners collect cards depicting old technology like giant cell phones. Brian from Play at the Plate now collects, you guessed it, cards showing plays at the plate. The Great Sports Name Hall of Fame collects cards of guys with weird names and Long Fly Ball To Because… collects cards of players bunting. I think everybody loves cards of guys with afros and pitchers hitting are kind of neat, too. I have 3 sub genres or themes that I collect, too. My collections are very small and I am always looking to grow them, especially the last one. I like cards of players wearing Negro League uniforms and I also like cards of guys holding microphones. I actually traded this Garko card away with someone who was trying to finish the Bowman Heritage set, fortunately I scanned it first. My number one favorite theme of all time, and I really can’t get enough of these, is cards of guys wearing sombreros. I love it. I love this hobby, I love writing about it and I love collecting. Anyone who tells you that they won't touch overproduced cards from the late 80's and 90's has never searched a box for themes... Does anyone else out there collect theme cards? I want to know! Go Rays, beat those Yankees! Gotta go to work. Troll out.
