Big Congratulations to Tampa Bay Rays centerfielder and lead-off hitter BJ Upton for being named the American League’s Player of the Month for the month of June. After the 3rd month of the season he is the second Rays player (Evan Longoria April) to win the award and the second Upton to win it (Justin Upton May) as well.
BJ batted .324 in 26 games in June. He hit 5 home runs, scored 20 times, drove in 22 and stole 14 bases during the month. He added a league leading 10 doubles, .a .562 SLG PER and an on-base-percentage of .395. He reached base safely in 24 of the 26 games in the month. He added 10 multi-hit games and his first 6 multi-RBI games, too.
On the season Upton is batting .244 with 7 home runs and 32 RBIs. He has scored 53 runs, hit 18 doubles and swiped 30 bases (3rd in AL). He was left off of the American League All Star roster, most likely due to the low season batting average.
Congratulations BJ, keep up the great work!!
Go BJ, Go Rays! Troll out.
