More Gint-A-Cuffs Fun...

Moving right along on my 2011 Gint-A-Cuffs adventure, it’s time to rip pack # 6, let’s go!
The first 3 cards out of the pack were yawn inducing… Card #244 of Chone Figgins, #134 of Giants pitcher Matt Cain and card #203 of Aaron Hill… Nothing exciting, nothing that earned me any points, until…
The 4th card out of the pack is card #325 of Marlins right fielder Mike Stanton. This dude is still just 21 years old, he earns the league minimum, was a Topps All Rookie Team selection last year and has 30 homers already this year. Short prints rule and this one earned me 2 points! It also reminds me of a post by the Waxaholic discussing how horrible Marlins attendance has been this year. It is unbelievable that a big league team is drawing that little, BUT a team with amazing young talent like this? F-ing insane.
Anyway, moving on to the 5th card out of the pack, it is card #FF 14, Solferino from the Floating Fortresses set. Nice. This one earns me another 2 points, woo hoo!
The last card in this pack is a little, itty bitty one… Card #PP10 of the Cairn terrier known as Toto. Good for an additional 3 points! I have finished the Portraits of Penultimacy set, so I was a little disappointed with this being my mini, but I will take 3 points, ha! That gives me 7 points for this pack which will be added to the 41 points I already had which give me 48 points (yes, I used a calculator) thus far…
Aside from the Mike Stanton SP, EVERYTHING is up for trade… Get in touch… More Gint-A-Cuffs pack ripping to come, stay tuned… Oh, in case anyone actually read this I am gonna end with a question. A simple yes or no. If you are part of the 2011 Gint-A-Cuffs rip-a-thon - do you still have packs left to rip or to post? Just wondering if I am the only one... Go Rays! Troll out.

A Quick Gint-A-Cuffs Post, Pack Numero Cinco...

Back again for more high scoring action, Gint-A-Cuffs pack numero cinco (5)…
I have 20 packs left to post and now that I have a scanner I am out of excuses… Only a few minutes before I have to go to work… Here we go:
First off 3 people who don’t play baseball, card # 3 of Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz. Stupid Lou costs me a point. He is followed by card #11 of Iron Chef Marc Forgione… I should lose a point for pulling a card of a dude with that name who spells it in that manner… Next is card #242 of a lady who dances, Cheryl Burke. Three cards in and I am down a point…
Next up is redemption!!! Card #309 of A’s catcher Kurt Suzuki!!! This may be one of my favorite base cards so far. A play at the plate and he is OUT!!! Very nice. Plus 2 cuz he is an SP. Is that John Lackey sliding in? Weird…
Next up is a Hometown Heroes card of David DeJesus. He is from Englishtown, New Jersey which has a big drag (racing, not queens…) strip in it. Big racing town, went there often as a kid. Plus 1 for Hometown Heroes. Plus 2 total for the pack…
My last card is a mini. Card #214 of Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus. I was hoping he might be PaTP’s fav players, I was hoping, but he went with Josh Hamilton and pulled a bunch of his cards and scored a lot of points. I score nothing for this. Pack 5, 2 points. Gint-A-Cuffs rocks!!! Oh, I had 39 points already after my first 4 packs, so I have upped my total to 41! Assuming I don't get called in to work tomorrow I should be able to post a few more packs... As always EVERYTHING is up for trade... Thanks for reading! Go Rays! Troll out.

Wake Up, Rip Packs... A Gint A Cuffs Post, Packs 3 and 4, PLUS!

Now it is time to get back to the Bizness of Gint A Cuffs

I already posted my first 2 packs of 2011 A&G and I am sitting pretty with 12 points… I realized that I skipped the ripping of that big pack that comes on top. So here we go...

I got a N43 pack and I had high hopes for it, I hoped I would yank a David Price or Carl Crawford or even a David Wright or Roy Halladay that I could trade away AND get some Gint-A-Cuffs points for it. Alas, I pulled a Yankee, and it was the most useless Yankee (other than A-Roid) aka Mark Teixeira. After I take the hit for pulling a Yankee, I come away with 5 points for my N43… Now onto my 3rd and 4th packs… Perhaps I will do a little better with these.
Here we go! This is what I got:
The first card I got was 2010 World Champion Cody Ross… Not too impressive, BUT it is a shortprint, so I get 2 points, woo hoo!
Next up is a whole lot of nothing… Beginning with Ross’ teammate (and former Ray) Aubrey Huff on card #23. No points. Then we have card #162 of Mat Latos. Meh. Followed by card #52 of pitcher Francisco Cordero. Meh. Next up is card #92 of Mariners super rookie Michael Pineda. This dude is amazing, but not amazing enough to be someone’s favorite player. No points. The last regular card in the pack is card #72 of ping pong champion Maxim Shmyrev. My friend Tong is a HUGE ping pong fan and has never heard of this guy so I am not impressed. Six cards in and I have 2 points from Cody Ross, but wait, there is more! I pulled a Minds That Made the Future card! It was #MMF27 of French microbiologist Louis Pasteur. Very cool and good for 3 points. Nice. I had one more card to go and I got a mini – a mini from the World’s Most Mysterious Figures subset, card #WMF7 of The Man in the Iron Mask, another card good for 3 points. Not too bad, I ended up with 8 points on this one, so with 3 packs and the N43 I have 25 points.

Next up, pack #4… Are you ready???

Pack four is gonna be a GREAT pack, I can feel it! Here we go… I started off with card #283 of A’s first baseman Daric Barton. Dude is a left handed hitting 1st baseman with a .210 batting average and ZERO homeruns. I aint impressed and didn’t bother scanning/photographing it, but the pack gets better…

Beginning with card #223 of Chuck Woolery and look who came with him… Card #105 of Indians pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez (a male figure) and card #299 of super cute boxing champion Ana Julaton (a female figure) so I get a bonus point, woo hoo! Next up is a Hometown Heroes card, #HH29 of Tigers pitcher Rick Porcello… His ERA is a bit high, but this dude is a solid starting pitcher and he is only 22 AND he isn’t a Yankee, SO plus 1 point! The sixth card out of the pack is a little thicker than the rest… Yep, it’s a relic. Card #AGR-CQ of White Sox outfielder Carlos Quentin. Baseball Reference’s Fan EloRater ranks him 1,046th of All Time among hitters. He was an All Star this year. Dude can hit some homeruns and he isn’t a Yankee, so I am not completely disappointed. Plus I get 10 points for it, yay!!! I still have one card left, too. The last card in the pack is a mini, card #94 of the Pirates middle infielder of the future? Josh Rodriguez AND it is a Ginter ad back, good for an extra 2 points (crap, forgot to snap the back, gonna have to trust me on this one). That gives me a total of 14 points for this pack!!! Awesome, my best yet!

That leaves me sitting pretty with 39 points and I have yet to pull a card of ANYONE'S favorite player... Oh yeah! EVERYTHING I pulled is up for trade, so get in touch with a Troll. I LOVE Gint-A-Cuffs!!! So glad I joined the party this year. Thanks for reading. Go Rays! Troll out.

The Historic, First Ever, CT Gint-A-Cuffs Post, I Am In!

So I suppose now is as good a time as any to start posting my box for this year’s Gint-A-Cuffs… I bought and ripped this thing a while back. It actually seems like a lifetime ago that I ripped these. My wife and I made a date of it and we each ripped 12 packs and kinda went head-to-head. I think I won, but wait, that isn’t really possible, is it? Anyway I have the rules printed out along with the favorite player’s list, so I am ready to post! Here is pack #1 and #2. These were my rips. I am pretty sure these are steps 1 and 2 towards my Gint-A-Cuffs championship. Here we go!
Pack numero uno… The pack states that I was supposed to get 8 cards. I didn’t. This is what I did get…
#188 Geovany Soto. Meh.
#217 Shaun Marcum. Meh, meh.
#265 Buster Posey. I THOUGHT he might be on someone’s fav player list. He aint.
#1 Carlos Gonzalez. This dude has a monster year last year… AND card #1 is out of the way…
#148 Sanya Richards. No extra points for pulling super fast Jamaican ladies…
#136. Dick Vitale… Its awesome baby, I am getting a point!!!
My last card is #SPU8 of the Strongman. Good for 3 points.
Okay, one pack in and I got 4 points. That’s good right….
On to pack #2.
Here we go!
We start off with #91 of Joel Pineiro.
#116 of Josh Beckett. 2 people have Jon Lester as their fav player, yet no one likes Josh Beckett. Go figure.
#32 Dirk Hayhurst. I really feel like I should lose a LOT of points for pulling this card.
This pack ends with just 3 base cards, here is what else I got…
Ascent of Man, #AOM 26. I really like this set. If you finish it you must put it in binder pages, it makes a really cool picture. This card on the other hand is supposed to show the epitome of human evolution, a dude peeing in the street. Still I get +3 for it…
Hometown Heroes, #HH60 of A-Rod. Stoopid A-Rod. Get a point for HH, lose a point for stoopid A-Rod. And by the way, I am a Floridian and he aint a home town hero down here...
Next, a hit?
Card #AGR-FC – A bat relic of Yankees 12th string catcher Francisco Cervelli. 10 points for a relic, divide by two cuz he is a stoopid Yankee. GRR.
And the last card is a base mine, #179 of the Flyin’ Hawaiian Shane Victorino. No points.
Okay, got 4 points on my first pack, 8 on my second. The championship is mine!!! Two packs in and I sit at 12 points. There are 22 more packs to come. Stay tuned. Oh, by the way, EVERYTHING is up for trade.
Go Rays! Troll out.

I Now Have a Scanner... A Mike Gellner Post...

So I have been talking about getting a new scanner for a long time now. Well, last week my wife surprised me with a sweet new wireless printer and scanner combo. The first thing I used it to scan is the last card I needed to finish off the 2011 Allen and Ginter Portraits of Penultimacy mini set. I got this card as part of a huge package from Duane of the Democratic Roadkill blog. It shows my blogger buddy and trading partner Mike Gellner and his little son Jacoby. When I saw the card I showed it off to the wife, she flipped it to read the back and when she saw it was in some sort of code, she had to crack it…
She asked me a few questions about Mike and within 5 minutes she told me what she thought it said… I was pretty impressed.
This is what she came up with: “While starting a baseball card collection for his two-year-old son Jacoby, Mike learned about the Ginter Code Promotion and teamed up to co-champion the 2009 Ginter code-cracking effort. Mike and Jacoby enjoy rooting for the Red Sox and collecting cards from their home in Portland, Oregon. “
Oh, by the way, I wanted to show off my Mike Gellner 1/1 with this post. It rules! Thanks for reading! Go Rays! Troll out.

WARNING! 2011 A & G Post -- Seven out of Ten Portraits of Penultimacy Minis For Viewing or Trading...

I have been pretty lucky with Allen and Ginter so far this year (2011). I haven’t pulled anything, but I got together a local network of collectors to split 2 cases of the product. I did horrible on my box, but I have been getting dupes from everyone else, so set-wise I am doing pretty well… Of course no one has dupes of rip cards, autos, rare minis, etc., but pending delivery I think I have the base set (1-350) finished, plus many of the normal minis sets as well. I know that many bloggers and collectors hate this time of year with Ginter Overload and all. I admit that I get tired of it, too, but it doesn’t make me love this product less…

Honestly I get more excited if I get a 2008 mini that I need than I would if I got a great card from 2011, but whatever… As I get some dupes myself I will post them here to help out the rest of you trying to finish your mini sets. I am going to begin with the Portraits of Penultimacy mini set. Very cool word you don’t see too often. The first time I saw it in print was in reference to Scottie Pippen, the second fiddle on the Championship Bulls teams of the 1990s. I haven’t finished the set, nor have I scanned the checklist – I wonder if old Scottie Pippen is in this one. He would fit in perfectly.

Okay, everything here (other than Toto, for now) is up for trade. I have several copies of some of these. Anyway, as y’all now, I am still trying to finish off the regular Topps sets from 2007 – 2011, PLUS Rays gold cards, PLUS Rays Ginter minis, plus 2008 Upper Deck Documentary, PLUS 2010 Allen and Ginter, plus some Vintage sets. In other words, I am pretty easy to trade with…
Here we go! Starting with card # PP1 of unaccredited telephone innovator Antonio Meucci. Wow, I have nothing to say about him, how often does that happen?
Card number PP4 of deranged blacksmith and Dr. Frankenstein’s assistant, Igor. I’m gonna guess that Igor is even shorter than Tim Collins, so I guess that makes him pretty cool. I guess.
Card number PP5 is my favorite of the set so far… It features the hype machine known as the Hare. The unbeatable speedster who lost a race in one of the great upsets of all time…
Card #PP6 features the Lone Rangers faithful sidekick Tonto… I am quickly running out of time before I am expected to actually work while at work, so…
Card PP7 shows composer Antonio Salieri, while card PP8 features Sancho Panza, squire to Don Quixote… The final card I have is of a little dog… Card #PP10 of Dorothy’s pooch Toto.
Everything is up for trade… Get in touch and these minis could be yours... Oh, by the way, I dug out my checklist for 2011 Ginter and there is no Scottie Pippen card included. I am missing 3 cards to finish this one off... Thomas Dewey, Doctor Watson and Mike Gellner. If the last card is the Mike Gellner I think it is, I WANT IT!!! Cheers! Go Rays! Troll out.

Gint-A-Cuffs ---- I AM IN!!!!

I started blogging in 2009, my first post was around this time of year, when just about every blog was filled with images of Allen and Ginter. By the time I figured out what it was and where to buy it, Gint-A-Cuffs was winding down. Last year I was poised and ready to be a part of it. I signed up, I trash-talked, I bought a new binder and pages and dreamed of pulling rip cards. THEN I realized how broke I was and I never got a box. Hell, I still haven't even finished last years set...

This year, 2011, I am IN!!!!! I stopped by the LCS today. He had picked up a case from his supplier this morning. Within an hour of opening up his case was sold and I GOT A BOX!!! It seems that I always join the party late, but today I was right on time. Of course it is time to go to work so I have to wait till after midnight to get to ripping, but for now I am just thrilled to show off this picture of MY BOX in my HAND!!! 2011 Gint-A-Cuffs Champion, Troll out!!!!!!
