Ripping Wax in 2010-Pack 12 of 1994 Pinnacle Series 2!

We are up to pack #12 of 1994 Pinnacle… Here we go!
#498 Otis Nixon Boston Red Sox (Nixon stole twenty or more bases in a season 15 times over his career, yet he never led the league in steals or even made an All Star team… His best single season total came in 1991 when he stole 72 bases for the Braves. Looking at the rest of his statistics Nixon had over 3 times as many steals as extra base hits over his career. His 620 steals place him 16th All Time. I think I would have preferred a baserunning photo of Otis on this card. Incidentally, Boston was one of 9 different teams that Nixon played for during his career. He spent 1 season with the Red Sox and was 3rd in the AL with 42 stolen bases)
#434 Wayne Gomes Draft Pick Philadelphia Phillies Museum Collection (I checked and Wayne is of no relation to Jonny Gomes. Oh well. Haven’t had a museum collection card in a while and these are really awesome. The Phillies used the 4th overall pick in ’93 to select Gomes and by ’97 the hard throwing right hander was in their bullpen. He had his best year in ’99 when he appeared in 73 games, saving 19 of them)
#528 Tony Longmire Philadelphia Phillies
#506 Mark Portugal San Francisco Giants (Portugal batted .354 with 8 RBI and won the Silver Slugger Award in ’94 for the Giants-he went 10-8 on the mound in his only full season in San Francisco)
#492 Spike Owen California Angels (Spike batted .188 with runners in scoring position in ’93-this aint too good, but Pinnacle listed it on the cards back like it was something impressive…)
#461 Mike Stanton Atlanta Braves (Over his 19 year career Stanton made it to the World Series 6 times with the Braves and Yankees. He won 3 rings and put up really good numbers in the Series. His career mark is 3-0 with a 1.54 in 20 games. He struck out 20 and saved 1)
#463 Mike Bordick Oakland A’s
#350 Juan Gonzalez Texas Rangers (After leading the AL in homers in ’92 and ’93 Juan Gone had an off year in ’94, I’m sure the strike didn’t help, but still… His homer output dropped to 19) #383 Randy Velarde NY Yankees
#471 Xavier Hernandez NY Yankees
#389 Ozzie Smith St. Louis Cardinals (I think this is the first card pulled of the best fielding shortstop ever! Like Otis Nixon Ozzie was a pretty good basestealer, but never led the league in that category-he never led the NL in any category for that matter… He did win the Silver Slugger Award in ’87 when he hit .303 with 0 homers and 75 RBI. He also stole 43 bases that year… His 580 steals is 21st of All Time)
#375 Darren Holmes Colorado Rockies (Holmes saved a career best 25 games for the Rockies in ’93)
#312 John Jaha Milwaukee Brewers (Jaha belted 19 homers in ’93 in his first full season in the big leagues… He would go on to top 30 homers twice as well as 100 RBI)
#379 Mark McLemore Baltimore Orioles (MM’s career spanned 19 seasons and he is another one of those guys who played every position other than pitcher or catcher. He set career highs in ’93 in doubles (27), hits (165) and RBI with 72)
Okay, first pack break of the New Year!!!! Many more to come! I plan on knocking out at least 10 packs on Monday and Tuesday combined, so stay tuned!!! It fell to 27 degrees tonight. This may seem warm to some of you, but when you work outdoors and all of your clothing is geared towards staying cool in the summer-it is freaking freezing! Thanks for listening… Fingers are extremely numb, this will be my lone rip tonight. Until the sun comes up…troll out.

  1. hey pumpkin, it was -38 here today with windchill, so toughen up a little. Maybe the padded bra instead of the water bra.

and Otis Nixon was awesome! You know why he didn't switch from center to left or right field later in his career like so many others?
Then he would be too close to a white powdery line and get distracted.
